As we have grown we have seen more and more people wanting to use the Tactical Commander slots on Persia and other servers on both sides, some times simply to move units where they need them to take bases and other times to try and make things more realistic and enjoyable for all parties, we do not discourage such use, however there are a number of things which any person using CA needs to be aware of especially on the Persian Gulf map some times for all maps were it is Persia only I have marked it as such.

  1. Trees.
    Please do not place units into dense forested areas or areas were basically all LOS avenues would result in ‘trees’. While yes in real life hiding units in and around tree’s is fine, it makes sense, in real life a 500 pound bomb will turn said tree into splinters, in DCS however Tree’s might as well be indestructable power poles of doom. This is across almost every map, Syria has some tree’s that are able to be destroyed but in the majority of cases DCS ‘TREES’ are more like bullshit objects that just make things unfun and unfair for every one, be it air or ground units.
  2. Buildings
    There is nothing wrong with parking a unit along side a building or even where it will have protected line of fire, But be aware of some limitations with DCS, the AI when you are not around and the Respawning of units. These are as follows:
    • Anything UNDER an object, ie under a roof, will respawn 90% of the time ONTOP of the roof on respawn.
    • Anything within the ‘boundry box’ that is basically the square/rectangular box around the building you have it parked next to depending on it’s shape, has a chance of respawning INSIDE said building.
    • The AI will try and shoot even if it doesn’t have all weapons ‘clear’ of a building, this can and does result in things like Missiles exploding on leaving the barrel and destroying them.

By and large try and leave at least 1/2 a vehicle width around your units and any building and stop and have a think.. if somethings likely to piss you off if you where trying to kill it because of DCS limitations/issues.. chances are it’ll piss some one else off.

  1. Moving Units
    Persia has some ‘issues’ with a lot of units moving at once, I’ve a feeling it’s to do with our scripting because well we have had about 400 odd units moving on a Syrian Map with no issue, be aware of the fact that mass units moving is a problem and try and limit the numbers you move at any time.
  2. Groups
    I am aware that some groups are larger then people like, this is both due to the amount of time that I have and the way I originally implimented the Template loading system. When Dynamically spawned however group sizes will always be 2 or 4 for most vehicles.
  3. Mountains
    Please don’t cheat systems onto the top of mountains. This goes not only for CA but also for CTLD. Here’s a hint and one that will start to be enforced, Tanks don’t like going up really steep gradiants.. nor do trucks or well anything that moves.. Gravity tends to hate you. Also while yes I get that CTLD currently lets you ‘lift’ crates onto the top of a mountain.. Those crates aren’t exactly proper weights.. Do NOT make me set them to real weights as every Huey and in the future Blackhawk pilot will likely find and hate you for it. We have to limit things due to DCS limitations as a ‘game’ but if people keep pushing their luck well you only have yourselves to blame.
  4. Artillary.
    Please be careful with the amounts of Artillary being shot. It can cause Lag issues, Also while both sides can ‘see’ around FARPS due to the way that the invisible FARP system works, please try and be realistic in those situations. IF you look and would be ‘hang on yeah nah this wouldn’t really be able to be seen’, then maybe not use that information.
  5. The ‘Fleet’ Batteries.
    Blue For Tac Commanders whom have permission know the commands to call in Tomahawk strikes, this is not a ‘unfair’ advantage.. It’s called having a fleet in the gulf. Deal.
  6. Fences and Persia.
    Do not park units against a fence in Persia, I mean it.. Just don’t, ED for some reason refuses to fix fences in Persia and they are the equivilent of ‘Trees’. Ie indestructable bullshit items. On any other map it’s fine, on Persia.. just, don’t.
  7. Slot Blocking
    We reserve the right to block/password any slot on the Server including the CA slots. Anyone found being a dick and causing issues to the detriment of the servers performance and or the enjoyment of the Core Group, will find themselves warned once and banned the second time.
