DCS Server update June 16th

Hey all, as many of you are aware 2.5.6 release cycle has been a ‘mess’ we saw basically a 6 month delay between OB – Stable during which Open Beta was a mess with random crashes and issues with stability for VR users, along with a mass of other issues. With the Super Carrier release we saw that Open Beta pushed to ‘Stable’ despite the fact that routing etc is messed up in it. Because of this we had originally planned on remaining on Open Beta as there were some new features that we wanted (the Radar for the Hornet and fixes for routing etc) however these last 3 patches have been… Less then optimal.

Because of this and because of the issues with lighting, systems, performance and other items as of Now we have moved our servers back to Stable and for the foreseeable future will be remaining on Stable. As a whole the TGW core group are aware that this means we may loose some members whom fly with us, those who want the ‘latest and greatest’ all the time, but that comes with a cost often buggy messes and while to date we have been happy to basically test DCS for ‘Free’ we have reached a point were recent events with buggy releases has forced our hand as it’s impacting our ‘fun’ times.

We are also at a point were we are getting tired of reporting bugs each patch cycle only to watch those bugs never get fixed, some of which we have given data for over 12+ months on (often far longer). Couple this with the announcement on the ED Forums patch update thread that the patch originally ‘slated’ for this week again to Open Beta was now pushed out to 15th July meaning that the current issues in the game that have now been reported will be there longer makes this build untanable for us to remain on. We have tried again and again to keep up on open beta but in the end the state of the buggy releases means that our ‘fun’ times are being screwed over by them given that lighting is borked in many modules performance has tanked and there are a wealth of other issues. As such after a long discussion amongst the ‘Core’ group we have come to the view that we are more then ready to sacrifice the AGR, SLAM etc and have performance then continue with this cycle of broken open beta’s, even if all we are doing really is rolling back to a slightly less buggy open beta that we alone reported a mass of issues for that were never fixed before the build was pushed to release.

Again we know this will not suit some people, but that’s just how things are going to be for now. Thanks for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you in the TGW Skies.

Regards
Rob.

About Rob

Rob is the server monkey and founder of TGW, he grew up a RAAF brat, and has had a love of aviation from well as long as he can remember in large part thanks to his dad and mum. Sadly medical issues mean that dream won't ever come true, so instead he tries to recreate it in virtual space. He's programmed for Flight Sim, designed ATO/Tasking and simulation systems for VSOA's, made a virtual PC9 fly correctly and its systems run properly, Beta tested for P3D, done concept art and design work for a best selling author plus more. You know we’d follow you anywhere Rob! How good will it be not not experience those nasties. How far behind on average is Stable behind Open Beta?
